A sneak peek at tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press ...

In tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press, you can read about the debate over the use of Flock cameras by local law enforcement; as well as about a landmark climate lawsuit out of Colorado that has reached the U.S. Supreme Court; and also about Miss Suzy, a local educator that is closing up shop after five years of tutoring local students.

Also in Wednesday's print edition you can read about the Pride of Montrose Marching Band, which recently took home the top prize in Class 4A at the Colorado West Invitational. The band is now aiming for the Western Regional and State Championship competitions.

Have a Good One,

'Whistleblower' threatens to sue MCSD if not granted more than a half million dollars; Brian Purnell — source of Olathe Elementary report that spawned investigation and resulted in superintendent's resignation and payout— looks for his own payday with settlement proposal

On the heels of a payout folded into its former superintendent’s resignation deal, the Montrose County School District may now be looking at shelling out additional funds as it considers a settlement proposal from a former administrator — Brian Purnell, the source of the 2025 whistleblower report that preceded, and perhaps, precipitated, the superintendent’s departure.

In early September, Purnell submitted a formal notice outlining claims against the district, describing them in a letter to the MCSD Board of Education as “a good-faith effort to resolve the significant employment-related and other legal issues from actions taken by the District against me and my family.

“The intent of this correspondence is to provide the Board with the opportunity to resolve these matters privately and without the need for litigation,” Purnell wrote.

Miss Suzy is saying “Goodbye”: Miss Suzy’s Educational Services is closing down, while Miss Suzy’s Shoppe will continue the mission

After five years of trips, tutoring, workshops and more, Miss Suzy's Educational Services is planning its final fall field trips and events.

“It’s been truly the joy of my life,” founder Suzy Conty said, later adding, “It’s hard to say good-bye.”

But, at least for now, the farewell isn’t permanent. While Conty is closing down her nonprofit, which provided a range of services and employed over a dozen part-time teachers throughout the years, she’s continuing her mission of supporting local education through Miss Suzy’s Shoppe. Here, families can schedule a consultation with long-time educator Conty, who will create for them a personalized learning kit to enrich their education.
