We'll explain in a moment how their enviable depth, and elite coaching, can help the Patriots weather Edelman's potential loss. First, a reminder of what they'd be losing. Edelman is one of Brady's closest friends off the field and has been on the receiving end of more Brady throws than any Patriot besides Welker. New England's leading receiver in three of the past four seasons, he's coming off a personal-best 1,106 receiving yards on 98 grabs, the second-highest total of his career. He's also the team's leading punt returner and, after Rob Gronkowski, New England's toughest individual matchup in the passing game. Edelman often saves his best for January and February.
