Creepy time creeping up on us

In case you were "having a Monday," console yourself. You probably did not get thwarted in an attempt to lock your door. By a spider. Twice.

Now, I don't like spiders. Not even a little bit. I just accept their place in the world and hope they stay out of sight, much as I assume they prefer not to be seen. I do, however, hate to kill them - because they have their place, they're pretty much just chilling and minding their own business, and also, I am too terrified to get close enough. So today, as I was leaving, and turned to lock my door, I wasn't A-OK seeing Mr. Spider right there on the door post, exactly where my hand would have moved in turning the key. "Bleh!" says I. I walked around to the front door to unlock it, go in that way, and lock the back door from inside, sans spider interference.

Guess what happened? My brain kicked onto autopilot, and I locked the front door behind me as I went in, then proceeded out the backdoor, went to lock it, and ... bleh! I repeated the same steps as before, only this time, I locked the dang backdoor from inside, and went back out the front, according to the original plan.

Anyway, seeing the creepy crawly today at least put me in a little bit of a Halloween spirit. It's not that far away, and the Montrose area has plenty in store by way of fun. Over the weekend, Montrose Witch's Night Out brought three days of festive fun, complete with kiddie rides, vendors, performances, a haunted house and a witch's parade. I had to dip before it ended, so I don't know who won, but my favorites were the full-on plague doctor and warlock-bat with mechanical wings that deployed. Plus the quiet figure that slowly and methodically stalked around the venue, with full antlers and staff. I was only 90% sure it was a costume, and not an elemental from a long gone time.

If you missed the fun, fear not: There are plenty more Halloween activities this week and next. Check them out here.
