The sad: The death of a good man President Jimmy Carter died Dec. 29, leaving behind a legacy of humanitarianism. Carter was praised across the political spectrum for his work and as an exemplar human being, although unfortunately, a local state representative, who was not even born when Carter was president, saw fit to post a celebratory tweet — hastily withdrawn and followed by an apology.
Here is Managing Editor Jeremy Morrison's take on that.
Montrose and surrounding areas can still honor Carter if they wish: Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans is raising a symbolic wall and door, meant to represent the opportunities Carter opened for beneficiaries of the nonprofit. You can go to the Montrose ReStore, 1601 N. Townsend, to sign the door with a respectful message until Jan. 10, when a short ceremony will be held at 3 p.m.
