Spring forward. Or backward. Or ... Well, it's that time again — time for the time-change, which hit this past weekend, early Sunday, when Daylight Saving Time began. Also like clockwork: the ceaseless debate. Do we scrap DST? Do we stay on DST permanently? The consensus, if there is any, seems to be "I don't care, just pick a time and stick with it!" I don't fall into that camp. I loathe DST. I want Standard Time year-round. But other folks feel just as strongly that we ought to stick with DST year-round. In fact, the legislature passed a bill in 2022 that would do just that, but Congress would have to approve, and other hurdles must be cleared. For now, I'm willing to split the difference and support keeping it status quo: Spring Forward, Spring Back. That way at least, everyone is happy for part of the year! (PS: It is Daylight Saving Time, not Daylight SavingS Time. Also, although we call it Spring Forward, it isn't spring yet. The vernal equinox is March 20. It's winter. Sure doesn't feel like it today, though!) — Katharhynn, from the Newsroom, who is having some extra caffeine today! |
