In tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press, you can read about MHS 2026 graduate Luke Gann, who will soon head to New York to study jazz with legendary bassist, composer and arranger, Buster Williams; as well as about the release of the long-frozen $40 million award to the Colorado River District for its purchase of the Shoshone water rights; and also about Montrose County Commissioner Sean Pond, who has withdrawn from the U.S. Senate race

Not just another day: Memorial Day in Montrose [PHOTOS]

Below Sunset Mesa, life hummed along Monday, with barbecues and get-togethers for a long holiday weekend. On top the mesa, amid headstones and fluttering flags, Memorial Day was something much more, as veteran and guest speaker Steven Stevenson told those who had gathered at Grand View Cemetery to mark the day with the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pride ... and prejudice? City council rejects Pride proclamation, residents voice their displeasure

Since the start of the year, the Montrose City Council has issued proclamations recognizing issues and events ranging from Gun Violence Awareness and National Donate Life Month to Arbor Day and National Therapy Animal Day. 

But, this week, a thin majority of council members drew the line at a proclamation officially recognizing June as Pride Month in Montrose, rejecting a request from residents to do so.

Red Hawks enjoy successes at state; With many team members returning, next season could be a hot one for Montrose

Walking away from the 2026 state track and field meet, the Montrose Red Hawks felt excited about what’s ahead.

The team had plenty of strong results, including podium appearances for Cutter Travers in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400 and 4x800 boys relay teams. It was a fitting end to a season that will serve as a major building block for the year ahead.
