In tomorrow's print edition of the Montrose Daily Press, you can read about the West Slope Mid-Year Water Summit that took play in Montrose this week (spoiler alert: it's not good news); and also about how the Montrose City Council — led by a slate of council members endorsed by the local Republicans as "vetted Conservative" — is electing not to do a Pride Month proclamation this year.

Graduates throughout Montrose celebrate the end of an era and beginning of something new [PHOTOS]

As spring edges towards summer, it's that season again — when graduating seniors take the step from one phase of life to the next. This past weekend, a number of graduates of the Montrose County School District celebrated this evolution, as they participated in graduation ceremonies and prepared for college, or the workforce or the military or whatever is coming next.
Montrose High School saw 277 students graduate this year. Over at Olathe Middle High School, 66 seniors graduated — and the class placed a single chair among their own in recognition of Aniya Corona, who was part of the Class of 2026, who passed away in third-grade.

Pride ... and prejudice? City council rejects Pride proclamation, residents voice their displeasure

Since the start of the year, the Montrose City Council has issued proclamations recognizing issues and events ranging from Gun Violence Awareness and National Donate Life Month to Arbor Day and National Therapy Animal Day. 

But, this week, a thin majority of council members drew the line at a proclamation officially recognizing June as Pride Month in Montrose, rejecting a request from residents to do so.

It’s too bad we ran a headline this winter titled “Taking the ‘Ride’ out of Telluride, because the pun is once again appropriate. Telluride Ski and Golf won’t open the resort’s downhill mountain bike part this year, citing upgrades to Lift 4, which serves the park, as the reason.
