Good evening and hello!

You might have to check under your hoods more often than normal when in the mountains this summer. There could be a few marmots.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife shared this photo of a marmot under the hood of a Durango man's vehicle last week. The heat from the engine was too much of a good time for not one, but two marmots, so it took a few hours until they left. (Photo credit to Matthew Mulholland.)

One of the marmots did return the next morning. Maybe it just wanted to hitch a ride?

The photo is a good reminder to check your vehicles after a hike in the mountains this summer. You never know what you might find. If you're curious about marmots, check our additional info here.

I'm off to the mountains this weekend. I will let you know next week if I spot any of these mammals.

County wants to pave roads this summer

I spoke with Keith Laube, public works director for Montrose County earlier this week. He told me the county is likely to pave roads this summer, including 6000 Road.

Some roads such as 6000 Road are well above the vehicle capacity threshold set in the county's policy. Paving those roads should provide additional safety — Montrose County is growing and growing fast with people seeking to move to the area and developers building housing units in various locations.

The county is developing a master road plan and has partnered with other agencies on an access control plan.

If you have thoughts on the specific roads planned for pavement or which areas the county should focus on, share with us here.

Cause of Simms Fire revealed

The U.S. Forest Service announced its prescribed burn project caused the Simms Fire.

The fire burned one home and two other structures.

Liz Teitz and Erin McIntyre of the Ouray County Plaindealer chronicled the Stauffers' losses in this story. It is an excellent piece and quality local journalism.

Before you go...

I saw "Top Gun: Maverick" last week and it was a true summer blockbuster. If you have time this weekend to head to the Fox Theater or Star Drive-In, both of which are playing "Top Gun: Maverick," I highly recommend it.

If you're a Tom Cruise fan, you're in luck in you head to the Star. The drive-in is playing a double dose of Cruise.

Have a great weekend!
