Hello! It's been a minute since the building last hosted guests. I was there during the JC Penney liquidation, which was eerie considering how empty it was.
So it's good to hear and see that the building will be occupied again, adding local jobs to the economy. Maybe I'll stop by and get some crafts. I always enjoy trying a new hobby.
What's the ceiling for trend of coworking spaces?
Since the start of the pandemic, remote work has become a popular option. There are a few reasons why: people in certain industries had to work from home with COVID restrictions in place, and a healthy portion of those same people started to realize the benefits of a flexible schedule.
Now, I don't think the decades long 9-to-5 schedule routine will go away anytime soon — that remains a fit for some. But the trend of more and more people opting for remote work isn't going away either — according to a projection from Ladders, 25% of professional jobs in the U.S. will be remote by the end of 2022. That number could increase in 2023.
To me, it represents a shift in what people are looking for. They're ready for something new and something different. Remote work offers that. But it's not for everyone. I'm curious to see how it evolves and it'll sure be felt here in Montrose and the surrounding area. Alt Space Coworking has five spaces across the Western Slope members can work out of.
Olathe girls wrestling paves path for future
Olathe High School's girls wrestling program had its inaugural season last winter. Since then, the program has produced two state champions (Nikki Koch, Kierstin Myers) and five state qualifiers (Koch, Myers, Lynessia Duran, Sadie Corn and Aby England). That's obviously impressive, considering the infancy of girls wrestling as a sanctioned sport in Colorado. Koch, Duran, Corn and England made history as the first OHS girls wrestling representatives to wrestle at Ball Arena in Denver, a venue that produces an atmosphere like no other for wrestling. But let's be clear on one thing: their success could inspire of wave of Olathe and Montrose girls to join the sport. That's cool and paves a path for potential collegiate opportunities. Those opportunities can be hard to come by in sports like softball and basketball. The recruiting field is crowded. But wrestling, and lacrosse to an extent, offer an appealing alternative. Coaches and parents have been vocal about the benefits of both sports.
Before you go.. * Fox Theater implemented an age-restriction policy that starts tomorrow. The policy applies to people 15 and younger after months of behavior issues from teens. * MCSD applied for BEST grants to improve security features, which would complete a phased rollout, and another to upgrade ventilation systems at multiple schools. The district plans to cover half the cost with federal COVID-related ESSER funding. Have a great evening!
