Another sober milestone Following the attack on Pearl Harbor 80 years ago, the United States government imprisoned United States citizens based on their heritage. FDR's infamous Executive Order 9066 prompted the detention of thousands of Japanese Americans, as well as German Americans and Italian Americans, although in far fewer numbers. This was a gross human rights abuse based on fear, as detailed in this excellent Smithsonian piece. Did you know there was an internment camp in Colorado? The Amache-Granada Relocation Center, now a historic landmark, imprisoned more than 7,000 people between 1942 and 1945. Yes — it happened here and we need to make sure it does not happen again.
