Stepping out, stepping in It was great to see so many people step out on Saturday to visit the Ute Indian Museum for Culture Fest. The second-annual, free event brought communities within the larger community together for food, fun, education — and dancing.
I value Culture Fest, because it reminds me to step out of myself and what I know, and into something else (plus there is frybread!).
Saturday, I missed the Bear Dance, but I caught the Round Dance, led by the family drum group Red Spirit. In it, City Councilor Dave Frank and museum Director CJ Brafford joined hands with others of all ages to literally step, side by side.
"We call it a friendship dance," Red Spirit's emcee said, capturing the mood of the whole Culture Fest.
Here are some highlights:

(Even youngsters enjoyed the Round Dance)

How 'bout that game!
No, not the Broncos on Sunday (cries silently). Our very own Red Hawks! The boys brought the best to the field for victory on homecoming, as they trounced Lutheran, 36 - 14. Go, team! (Photo by William Woody) CONGRATULATIONS!
