School's in session, be safe ...

Jeremy Morrison
Yesterday, my kids came home from school with some jarring news: another student had been involved in a traffic accident.

Along with other students, my daughter witnessed this accident. She saw this poor students hit by a vehicle as they crossed a street near the school, then dragged beneath the vehicle until it came to a stop.

We're still finding out details about this tragic accident, but according Katharhynn Heidelberg's reporting the student was injured badly enough to require transportation to the hospital. We also know, according to police, that the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident was another student.

As soon as we know more information — as soon as officials and family members confirm further information — we'll relay the details. In the meantime, it seems like an appropriate time to emphasize the advice of Montrose Police Cmdr. Chris Velasquez: "The school year is in full swing. There is a lot more pedestrian traffic around schools ... We're just asking everyone to keep safety in mind … whatever their mode of transportation may be, and just be diligent when driving and when walking as a pedestrian."

Y'all be safe and be careful out there.

Have a Good One,

Jeremy Morrison,
managing editor

Montrose airport celebrates new expansion propelled by ever-rising passenger numbers

Alexander Weed buzzed with excitement. It was Thursday evening, and the youth stood proudly in front of a wall of kids' art at the Montrose Regional Airport — a wall at the new, northern expansion of the ever-burgeoning facility, that is. Soon, he headed down Montrose's first escalator in a public building with his parents Matt and Svetla, to watch Montrose County Commissioners Sue Hansen, Roger Rash and Keith Caddy officially cut a big blue ribbon with Aviation Director Lloyd Arnold, marking the official opening of the new expansion.
