| Snow time! Well, ladies and gentlemen, it is December and for today, at least, it sure feels like it. After a gorgeous warm day Saturday, the temps dropped overnight and on Sunday, snow socked the high country, for once also falling here. I was glad not to have to be driving in it, because the two most likely places I would have been traveling were a right mess, according to reports. Highway 145, which I take to see pals in Cortez, was covered with snow in photos I saw, and one person reported seeing five wrecks. Highway 50, my route to see my mother, was also a snarl, with portions closed, and let's not even talk about Monarch. The bigger mess was on I-70, with not one, but two pile-ups, according to the Colorado State Patrol. One in Garfield County involved 30 vehicles; the second, in Eagle County, 20. Miraculously, no injuries were reported. Unfortunately, lots of vehicle damage. The snow was tamer here in town, but it was enough that I woke up in a world of white that - until I started scraping my car - was magical. Here's a hope for the coming winter (it's not winter until Dec. 21, which is solstice, and, my calendar tells me, Yule). So, if the weather is on your mind, take a bit to make sure your vehicle is up to snuff for the roads. And if it's the magic that's on your mind, consider sharing a little, if you can, with Salvation Army bellringers; Sharing Ministries of Montrose (food bank); Shepherd's Hand; Lighthouse shelter; Haven House; Angels for the Needy; Mrs. Claus for a Cause, and many more. Happy snow, Montrose! - Katharhynn, from the Newsroom |
