But I've set up my phone to receive notifications if there's any chance of a powder day within 2-3 hours of Montrose. If Vail got dumped on, Powderhorn is deep, or it's gonna be a good day to be in Revy Bowl, I know about it.
This year, I've gotten very few such alerts, until now. Today, I woke up to a handful of emails with the subject line "Snow Report Alert," and I'm jealous of anyone that got to spend the day at Powderhorn or Crested Butte.
But, that's ok, because we're heading into a few weeks of stormy weather, at least according to Joel Gratz.
He's the man behind the pow alerts and the forecast system many local mountains use. And today, I was happy to have quite a few emails from his OpenSnow platform in my inbox.
The notifications reminded me of the story I wrote about Gratz last year, and that I need to patch the new hole in my ski jacket before conditions get to wet.
Anyway, that's my problem. But if you haven't hear of Gratz, he's got a cool story about combining his love of science and skiing, and OpenSnow is a great platform for avid snow chasers.
So, check it out, and get out there while it's good!
