| Packing for a cause Today in "Did You Know ...?" It is estimated that one child dies of hunger every four seconds. I did not know that. I knew, abstractly, that people starve, but when we live in a nation of relative comfort, it is hard to fathom what so many others endure. We do have hungry people in Montrose; to my knowledge, though, we have not had a single person actually died of starvation. Montrose is also filled with generous and dedicated people: they are the ones who feed our friends and neighbors through such missions as Sharing Ministries and Shepherd's Hand, or Grace Center. Charity begins at home — that does not mean it needs to stay home. Turns out, a whole lot of people in Montrose understand that, too. This past weekend, families, church members, employees at local businesses, members of many community organizations, and individuals showed up for two-hour shifts of packing nutrient-dense food packets for Feed My Starving Children, which will be sending the food to many poverty-stricken nations. For these volunteers, it was a few hours. For the recipients, it is a lifeline. So, I wanted to thank each and every one of them, along with everyone who coordinated the mobile packing events, the businesses and donors that supported the efforts with money, and FMSC itself.
