Hi and hello! Well, today is fun because not only is it National Roast Chestnuts Day, but it's also National Monkey Day. Wrap up your Tuesday with some chocolate-covered roasted chestnuts while you hug your favorite monkey. If you don't have a monkey on hand, you can learn more about our primate pals here. Do you have any holiday recipes you think the rest of the community should know about? You can share by emailing cassiek@montrosepress.com or on our NABUR platform!

Four current city council representatives seek reelection: The next municipal election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2022 and four of the five sitting councilmembers will be running to keep their current seats. Mayor pro tem Dave Frank is the only representative not required to run for his seat in the upcoming election since his term ends in two more years. Candidates interested in running can begin circulating petitions on Jan. 4 and must receive 25 valid signatures no later than Jan. 24. Residents interested in running for a vacant district seat can access the candidate packet through the city website or pick up a paper version from the City Clerk's office between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. To view a map of Montrose's council districts, candidates can visit the city's election page. For more information, contact the City Clerk's Office at 970-240-1430 or via email cityclerk@cityofmontrose.org. You can read the full story here.
Montrose Marlins take first at home meet: My colleague, Josue Perez, reported that at their first home meet on Dec. 4 and 5, the Montrose Marlins swim team swam like their mascot, totaling 3,373 points to second-place Sopris, which finished with 2,204 points. It was a season-best meet for several of the Marlins. Some posted first-place finishes, including the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Hannah Rehard, Jaslyn Hunter, Isa Miller and Tilly Johnson-Freeman.
DMEA is back up and running: A month after hackers attacked DMEA's internal network, the cooperative has relaunched its payment system. DMEA began accepting payments on Friday, Dec. 10, and reissuing energy bills after a "malicious" cyber attack on Nov. 7. Co-op officials remain mum as to the nature of the cyber attack, including whether DMEA paid ransom to the hackers, our assistant editor Katharyhnn Heidelberg reported. Customers won't be charged late fees or experience disconnected services due to nonpayment until after Jan. 31. We're hiring! The Montrose Daily Press has open routes. Earn an extra $800* a month for just a few hours a day. Valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle and proof of insurance is required. Apply by email to stephanies@montrosepress.com, stop by our office at 3684 N. Townsend Ave. or give us a call at 970-249-3444. *Average monthly pay ranges from $600 to $900 per month, depending on the route.
