Hi and hello! Have you seen the new shortlist for the MHS mascot? You can now vote on the new four options: Raptors, Bulls, Storm and Mountain Lions. Personally, I love Storm, but I'm biased toward stormy weather. The committee of 15 narrowed down the list of potential mascots during yesterday's meeting, the second meeting regarding the new mascot choice. MHS Principal Jim Barnhill stated during the meeting that he would like to keep red and white as the official school colors. Here's the current breakdown in votes for the four mascot options (as of the moment I'm writing this letter anyway). - Raptors: 7.7%
- Bulls: 15.4%
- Storm: 23.1%
- Mountain Lions: 53.8
What do you think of the new options? You can share by emailing cassiek@montrosepress.com or on our NABUR platform! ~ Cassie
There's a bus shortage in Delta: Delta County schools are struggling to find enough bus drivers to transport kids to and from school. Now the ongoing and worsening shortage of bus drivers in the county has forced Delta County School District 50J to travel down a difficult road. According to Assistant Superintendent Kurt Clay, the district made the decision last week to combine a number of bus routes and to change Delta area schools schedules beginning after the holiday break.
Mrs. Claus is comin' to town: Mrs. Claus for a Cause is an annual charity event that was created to help the community during the holidays by hosting a free event that includes toys, food, photos and fun activities. Every child goes home with a handful of toys and every family goes home with a hot meal. Just last year, the charity helped more than 400 families! The third annual event will take place on Friday, Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. for children with special needs and on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. for everyone else. You can register for Friday's event by emailing mrsclausforacause@yahoo.com or call/text 800-231-0609. No registration is needed for Saturday's event. You can also donate to the event at the charity's GoFundMe. You can check out the event on Facebook here.
