Good afternoon and hello!

Spring break is just days away. What are your plans this year?

Though I won't be traveling anywhere next week, I'm glad spring weather is starting to make an appearance here in Montrose. It's my favorite time of year, mostly because it signals the start of baseball, but also... March Madness.

We saw a few upsets last week in the men's tournament (No. 15 Saint Peters over No. 2 Kentucky and No. 12 Mexico State over No. 5 UConn), but my favorite was No. 12 Richmond knocking off No. 5 Iowa, which sent college basketball Twitter into a frenzy.

I picked Richmond to win that game for one reason only: RICHWHAT... RICHMOND! "Coach Carter," anyone?

That's the beauty of March Madness: you can have fun with your bracket and enjoy the bracket-busting upsets along the way.

I did pick No. 1 Gonzaga to win it all. Who did you pick?

The Village on San Juan anticipates 2022 groundbreaking

Region 10 and CASA are addressing critical housing needs for their service demographics.

The Village on San Juan, which is anticipated to break ground in 2022 and is located across the Sunshine Peak Apartments, is a roughly $6 million-dollar supportive housing development. It'll consist of 33 tiny homes and a 2,600 square-foot community building.

You can read more about the project from my colleague Katharhynn Heidelberg here.

Lopez named first-team all state wrestler

Dmarian Lopez added to his historic 2021-2022 wrestling season last week. He was named a first-team all state wrestler in 4A.

The honor comes nearly a month after Lopez won the 4A 285-pound state title, becoming the first Montrose wrestler to accomplish the feat since 2012.

You've seen me write about it, but if you haven't already, watch this video recapping Lopez' win and the immediate reaction that followed. (Skip to the 4:07 mark in the video.)

What a cool moment for him!

Before you go...

I read earlier this week that former Chicago White Sox closer and World Series champion Bobby Jenks has been named the next manager of the Grand Junction Rockies.

He was the team's pitching coach last season and previously spent time working with the White Sox pitching staff after retiring.

I'm interested in seeing how the GJ Rockies do under Jenks. It's also a perfect time to see players from the Rockies' upcoming draft class I saw current Rockie second baseman/shortstop Brendan Rodgers play at Sulpizio Field after he was drafted in 3rd overall in 2015.
