Bag Fee!

If you been to City Market, Safeway or Walmart lately and weren't prepared, you were probably caught off guard with the new carryout bag fee or simply no bags for your purchases.

House Bill 21-1162 allows a store to furnish recycled paper bags or single use plastic bags for a charge of 10 cents each. This is from Jan. 1, 2023 through Dec. 31, 2023.

Starting Jan. 1, 2024, a store may only furnish a recycled paper bag for a fee of 10 cents. What I didn't realize is that beginning Apr 1, 2024 the store is to pay 60% of their bag fee revenues to the municipality or the county in which they reside and keep the other 40%.

There are exceptions as you can see here on the Colorado Department of Revenue website.

If I were the store management, I would rid myself of bags all together. Businesses don't have time for bureaucracy.

My wife Melissa has a slew of Walmart reusable shopping bags. I asked her what is she going to do when she shops at City Market. I'm not going to tell you her answer. I am happy to report that I am finally out of the dog house.

I know most people didn't enjoy last night's College Football National Championship game but I did. I'm a long time Georgia Bulldog fan after spending a good portion of my childhood in Augusta.

In case you hadn't heard Georgia beat TCU by a score of 65-7 in one of the most lopsided victories of all time.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett's story of walk-on to being told to develop in Junior College to told he'd be a backup to forcing his way as the starter to two time National Champion is stuff of college football legend.

And it seems like it couldn't have happened to a nicer, well grounded person.
