What a mess at the Capitol!

After three attempts California Rep Kevin McCarthy did not garner enough votes to be elected Speaker of the House.

Our Representative, Lauren Boebert is amongst the nineteen the first two rounds and twenty on the third round, who cast their votes for others aside from McCarthy. Here is Rep Boeberts tweet with a video posted when she addressed the media about the situation.
Jim Jordan from Wisconsin received all twenty votes on round three, despite nominating McCarthy and asking the Republicans to support him.

McCarthy could only afford four dissenters amongst his peers.

The last time the House failed to vote for a Speaker was 1923. The Washington Post has a story posted about that election here.

The House is adjourned and will take up the vote again tomorrow at noon D.C. time.

Pope Benedict XVI's passing.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI over the weekend.

The best tribute I read this weekend was from, The National Review's Michael Brendan Dougherty, "Why Future Generations Will Celebrate Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI". You can read it here.

I read a ton of negative comments on social media about Benedict. I won't debate his legacy. I'll just say I agree with Dougherty.

I'm in the middle of reading the book - Pope Benedict, a life. It was an incredible life.
