Good evening, Montrose.

Cassie from the newsroom coming to you a little later tonight than usual.

It looks like chaos still reigns at the Capitol today as the House adjourns its third day without a speaker. This also marks Rep. Kevin McCarthy's 11th failed bid for speakership. McCarthy has offered concessions to sweeten the deal for over 20 hardline Republicans, including our district's Lauren Boebert, but to no avail.

Boebert has been in the news the past couple of days, from her interviews on Fox and MSNBC to positing that former President Donald Trump should withdraw his support of McCarthy.
Today she stood to nominate "Kevin," pausing before nominating Kevin Hern of Oklahoma and eliciting a pretty negative response from the room, many of whom seemed to expect her to cast a vote for McCarthy.

Next to the singular vote for Trump (nominated by Rep. Matt Gaetz), Hern possesses the lowest number of votes, according to the latest New York Times report.

We'll have to see tomorrow if any progress is made in finding a new speaker.

In the meantime, I wanted to take a moment to recognize the passing of Barbara Walters last Friday. Barbara, as you may know, was a pioneer in journalism for not just women, but everyone.

I remember growing up and watching her with my mother. While I didn't always agree with her reporting style, I always admired the path she blazed for the rest of us and her work. Barbara broke too many glass ceilings to count throughout her career.

You can read Katie Couric's tribute to the late broadcaster and journalist here. May she rest in peace and may we continue to learn from her legacy.

Have a great weekend, Montrose! Stay warm ☀️
