Oscar nods.

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning.

The Washington Post has a full rundown here.

These awards are always subjective. One noticeable snub for me would be "Emancipation" starring Will Smith. Great movie but apparently the film industry has taken Will Smith out their collective mouths. See the trailer here. It's available on AppleTV.

Of those listed for Best Picture my top 3 are...

"All Quiet on the Western Front"
It's an instant epic war movie. War is hell and this movie takes you through a young German soldier's experience during the Great War. It's heartbreaking. See the trailer here. It's available on Netflix.

"The Banshees fo Inisherin" is a quirky dark comedy featuring Colin Farrell as Pádraic and Brendan Gleeson as Colm. The story is about two friends who live on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Suddenly Colm decides to cut off his friendship with Pádraic for no other reason than he thinks their routine has become a waste of his time. It gets uncomfortable to say the least from there. See the trailer here. It's available on HBO MAX.

"Top Gun: Maverick is better than the original. I was sceptical but Tom Cruise pulls it off. We were cheering as we watched Maverick pull off a miracle. The relationship ties to the original Top Gun play well. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The action will get your heart pumping. Here's the trailer. It's available on Paramount+ and Epix.

At the risk of being unamerican my nod would go to All Quiet for Picture of the Year.
