1 dead after Kayla Trail shooting

One man is dead in a shooting Thursday afternoon, Montrose County Sheriff Gene Lillard said. The investigation into the incident in the 64000 block of Kayla Trail is new, with multiple moving parts, and information is limited at this time. Lillard said the death is considered suspicious, however, his agency is awaiting word as to preliminary cause and manner of death from the coroner's office.

Knit For Change hosts public Knit-in Day event locally

Montrose's own Knit For Change (formerly Angry Knitters) will honor the worldwide Knit-in Public Day at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 14, across from City Hall.
Knit For Change will be joined by San Juan Voices of resistance. The air will be filled with the clacking of needles and the notes of protest.
Participants range from beginner to trust artists. Knitters don't discriminate — participants can crochet, do needlework, craft quilts, and everyone working for change is welcome. Bring your voice and/or needles, a chair and a thoughtful sign.

Get to know Chef Uma: Chef behind Baan Thai is putting her name on a new venture

Even if you don’t know Chef Uma by name, chances are you’ve tasted her work.
Her full name is Uma Stout, and for around two years her food truck, Baan Thai, brought locals a taste of Thailand they couldn’t find anywhere else.
“I wanted to introduce them to more dishes from Thailand,” she said, later adding that sometimes the Thai food scene feels like “pad thai, pad thai, pad thai everywhere.”
