Weekend wrap - Tragic death; fires | From the Newsroom

Here’s a recap of recent news:

• Hot and dry weather collided with wind and lightning to spark two fires on the West End early last week. The Beehive Fire burned more than 300 acres and the nearby Paradox Trail Fire, more than 52. However, the diligent crews have brought those fires pretty close to containment. Paradox Trail was contained at 70% as of Saturday, and Sunday brought 88% containment to the Beehive Fire; the Bureau of Land Management will no longer be updating fire information, although it can still be found on InciWeb.

• A fire of a different sort destroyed the garage and portable storage of the Guerra family in Olathe, and they lost a lot of emergency supplies they give out to those who are homeless or otherwise in need through Angels for the Needy.

• The Montrose City Council might not convene a citizens charter review committee after all.

• Montrose County is backing efforts to have the United States Supreme Court halt a lawsuit Boulder County and the City of Boulder filed against energy giants over climate change.

• Finally, community member Jesse Pagan sadly lost his life last Thursday when he was fatally shot near his home. A suspect is in custody and we are pursuing more information. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends, and the community as a whole, because violence affects us all.

Weekend scene: Cars!

This weekend wrapped up with another few days of good times and great events. The Black Canyon Classics Car Club again brought the Colorful Colorado car, rod and truck show to Cerise Park on Saturday, plus on Friday down Main Street, and later Saturday, an evening at the drive-in with classic cars. This photo, and more, by Joseph Harold.
