Heartbreaking loss of 'brightest angel'

This isn't the newsletter I wanted to write.

Tragically, a little girl with deep Montrose connections passed away at her home in Cortez on March 29, leaving behind her grieving dad in Montrose and many family and friends.

Any loss is terrible, but the loss of a child, particularly one as young as Annika Mae Leonard Sandoval, hits extra hard.

Investigators in Montezuma County are looking at what may have happened to take the 5-year-old child away from her loved ones far too soon.

Montrose is coming together to help Annika Mae's dad: there is a Go Fund Me account for funeral and related expenses. As well, Colorado Boy in Montrose is sponsoring a tap night on Wednesday and donating part of the proceeds to the family. Tap night is from 4 to close.

The little girl's funeral services are earlier Wednesday, at 11 a.m., Calvary Church, located behind Big 5 Sporting Goods.

Katharhynn from the newsroom, and crew, are keeping this family in our thoughts.

Sadly, one more loss

We are also sad to hear of the passing of Travis Maddox, the husband of Tonya Maddox, who was publisher of the Montrose Daily Press 2017 - 2019.

Mr. Maddox died suddenly while at dinner with his family March 31. Our profoundest sympathies go out to Tonya, their son, and family.
