Happy Friday, Montrose! Justin from the newsroom here, delivering your afternoon newsletter.

I went camping a couple weekends ago, as the weather is finally good enough. A few friends and I made it over to the West End of Montrose County (actually went far enough west that we crossed into San Miguel County).

We camped in a remote spot on some BLM land not many know about. It's right on the Dolores River and is a mini Moab of sorts. If you want exact details on where this was, shoot me an email. But it doesn't seem like many people know about it, so I'd like to keep it a little secret.

ImageA couple photos are included here (it was a full moon when we went).

Anyway, I say all this to ask you to share any good camping spots you might have in the area. The more remote, the better, I like to get away. Shoot me your spots to justint@montrosepress.com. I may share your spot and any photos you have in an upcoming newsletter.

Kudos to a local kid. Trey Reese will be playing basketball for Western Colorado University! The all-conference guard was the facilitator for the MHS offense this past season, averaging 5.8 assists per game.

Below is Trey on Wednesday, signing his letter of intent as a preferred walk-on.

A good pick-up for the Mountaineers. Good luck to Trey.

A dying breed myth: I stole this note from our sister paper in Green Valley. Do you have a favorite dog because you like the breed's personality traits? A recent study shows that each pup is different, and breed is not a strong predictor of any individual dog's personality. You can read about the findings here.
