Do you have 5 minutes?

Happy Monday to all! Do you have five minutes? We have information for you! We've launched "5 Minutes in the Newsroom" to give the community insight on our coverage topics.

The state-mandated mascot change for Montrose High School, Centennial Middle School and Johnson Elementary remains a hot topic. You can tune in — for just five minutes — to education reporter Anna Lynn Winfrey filling in Managing Editor Justin Tubbs on the latest developments here.

And coming up, yours truly — Katharhynn from the newsroom — discusses Montrose Regional Health's forthcoming ambulatory care center with Staff Writer Cassie Knust.

The clocks — is it time to lock them?

Amid national efforts to make Daylight Saving Time year-round, the Colorado Legislature is debating bills that would "lock the clock," reports Colorado Newsline.

Clearing the House: The Daylight Saving Time Year Round Bill, which, as the name implies, makes DST permanent in Colorado. The catch is, federal law would have to change first.

And three of this bill's sponsors are also sponsoring a bill to make standard time permanent here. What gives? An "all of the above approach" — reportedly, they just want to end the twice-yearly ritual one way or another.

I've weighed in on having DST vs. standard time year-round before, on our NABUR platform. Let's just say, I'm one of those who thinks that if it must be one way or another all the time, it should be standard time. Head on over to NABUR and share your thoughts here

Bright spots:

On a personal note, I would like to thank the two gentlemen who helped me out of a self-inflicted jam on Sunday.

Due to my incredible talent for foolishness, I managed to high-center the front of my car on a large rock. Without being asked, these men came over and pushed the car off the rock. My ride appears to be none the worse for wear!

This is offered as a reminder that good people do exist — and that we should all strive to be among those "good people." If you see someone you can help, please do so. I will be paying this kindness forward.
