Where the grass grows blue ...

Bluegrass music tends to lend itself to collaboration. Within the Western Slope bluegrass sphere, musicians from various camps convene for pickin' sessions on the regular — and so it is with the musicians in Still House String Band and Stray Grass, who have been jamming with each other for years.

"I have jammed with them on stage and off stage," said Clifton Knorpp, who plays banjo in Still House String Band.

"We collaborate, get together, pick a few songs," said Garry Tullio, the mandolin player for Stray Grass. "We even rehearsed at my house last night."

So, when both Still House and Stray Grass team up this weekend to play a double-bill show at Delta's Egyptian Theater, it will be comfortable, well-trodden territory. Old friends inviting everyone to their intimate living-room jam session.

Knorpp and Tullio took a few minutes recently to discuss their upcoming collaborative show, as well as bluegrass in general, diving into what makes Colorado-tinged bluegrass special.
