It's been a great winter Not really snow-wise- we definitely could have used more, though the last month has made up for a dry start to ski season. But, sadly, it's finally coming to an end anyway, at least at most of the resorts closest to Montrose. The chairs will stop spinning for the season at Telluride, Crested Butte and Powderhorn Sunday afternoon, and I hate that. Here's some good news: Sunday should be a beautiful ski day with blue skies, and possibly even powder at Telluride in the morning. Each mountain also celebrates the end of the season in their own way. Powderhorn and Crested Butte will host pond skims, while Telluride is running a bikini slalom Sunday. There will be live music at all three mountains, and concerts and events throughout Telluride and Crested Butte. If, like me, you're not ready to break out the summer gear, it's not all over yet. But, you're going to have to drive a little more. Monarch Mountain near Salida is set to be open for one more weekend, and Purgatory plans to continue weekend perations until the third weekend in April, depending on conditions. If you really want to keep chasing snow, Arapahoe basin will likely be open until June, and has very reasonably priced ticket packs available. At $330 for four tickets, I had grab at least a few. I don't know what it's like to snowboard in May, but I'm already excited that it's possible. Cheers, Kylea from the newsroom |
