I think I made my parents back home proud this weekend. Not because I rode through quite a few sketchy trees to access a semi-open back bowl at Vail on Sunday- they probably wouldn't love that. But because I went to Easter church Saturday night (that counts for Catholics) before I did that. It's all about balance. I'm not much of a churchgoer, but even I know it's probably bad karma to skip Easter services to go snowboarding. Every time it seems like the season is over, there's a little more snow and a single cheap accommodation to be found near one of the last few mountains where the chairs are still spinning. Sadly, I think my weekends like this are dwindling, save for the two A Basin passes I'm saving for May and June. But, that's ok. Closer to home, it's time to break out the bikes. Of course, more serious riders probably never stopped, but I'm a seasonal girl. To me, bike season starts every May 1 when the RAT trails open in Ridgway. This year, opening day will be extra special, as you'll read in our Outdoors section Saturday. For the first time, the RAT is hosting an Opening Night Bash at The Sherbino, complete with live music, bike films and club updates. It's all to raise money for new trails the group started building last year and will finish this summer, including a new trail for adaptive riders. So, if mountain biking is your thing, or your just looking for a fun adventure film event, check it out! Cheers, Kylea from the Newsroom |
