WHERE'S THE MONEY?
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a sweeping effect on people and the economy, but when it comes to the governor's wish list for a special legislative session, local lawmakers have a question: Where's the money going to come from?
Governor Jared Polis called for a special legislative session, to begin Monday. He is asking the General Assembly to take action on several needs.

THANKSGIVING TO GO: Although this year, Friendship Hall was not filled to the gills with happy, hungry community members waiting to dine inside on a Thanksgiving feast, it was still a hive of activity as volunteers rushed to send meals to waiting cars.
With gathering sizes limited due to COVID-19, Montrose Community Dinners planned well in advance for an alternative community meal — the board switched operations for delivery or takeaway only, assembled the volunteers … and, come Thanksgiving morning, got to work.

RED PLANET: Red Planet Day, November 28, recognizes the planet which has captivated human observers for countless years, Mars. Right now, we know that Mars is red thanks to photographs beamed back to Earth from American rovers.
For centuries, the naked human eye has been able to detect the reddish tinge of the solar system's fourth planet, glimmering in the night sky. Little did scientists know, the red on Mars' surface came from a preponderance of iron oxide, common rust. On Red Planet Day we celebrate our fascination with Mars, along with all the scientific advancements into understanding the dusty planet.

PLANE CRASH: Two people died Thanksgiving afternoon when their plane crashed just east of Telluride Regional Airport.
Their identities had not been released as of Friday morning.

MILLIONS IN DAMAGES: Defendants in Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors litigation have been found liable for more than $8 million, according to a recent court order, which said the now-closed Montrose business acted in "bad faith."
The Nov. 23 order liquidating default damages constitutes the third judgment against Sunset Mesa in a spate of civil suits that were filed after the Montrose funeral home shut down amid allegations of body trafficking and not conducting cremations as agreed.
As the result of an FBI investigation, owner Megan Hess and her mother, Shirley Koch, were federally indicted earlier this year on allegations of mail fraud related to 38 decedents and improperly shipping the diseased body parts of three people, which they have denied.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING: Gobble, gobble! It's turkey day. From the Montrose Daily Press family to you, happy Thanksgiving. Stay safe. We're closed today, but we'll be back Friday giving you all the latest news around Montrose.

EVENTS: Thanksgiving is just getting started and we've got a list of Thanksgiving day events you can enjoy from your living room. My favorite is the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
— Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Airs nationwide as a television-only event with no audience on NBC and Telemundo on Thursday, Nov. 26 from 9 a.m. ET to 12 p.m. ET, in all time zones.
— National Dog Show: Starting at noon, the 19th annual dog show will also look different. This year's, recorded earlier this month at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, was a little different, with fewer dogs competing and no spectators permitted.
— NFL games: The Texans take on the Lions at 10:30 a.m. and Dallas faces Washington at 2:30 p.m. The NFL moved the Ravens and Steelers game to Sunday.
