Good evening and hello!
Man, oh man was the suspense high at yesterday's playoff game between Montrose and Riverdale Ridge.
At one point in overtime it seemed as if Riverdale Ridge would score, but no dice. At another point Montrose was feet away from scoring, but again nothing.
You could cut the tension with a knife with how closely these teams were playing. The fans/parents audibly gasped when each team would miss a score by mere inches.
Below is a photo of her teammates swarming her after the victory.
I had hoped to be closer, but Montrose scored so quickly in double overtime that it was both shock and awe. What a clutch play.
The win came despite the team battling injuries and a team-wide sickness.
It's the program's first playoff victory since 2014, and it's been quite the journey for the group since last season when they finished 3-7.
This one has my vote for top photo.

Guess what's back, back again I know we've been mentioning this plenty this week in these newsletters, but I'm a movie buff, so this news is exciting. The San Juan Cinema will reopen May 20 with "Uncharted" and "Father Stu." It is the first time the venue will have showings since February 2019. I know plenty of people in the community, including myself, have been waiting to see the San Juan make a comeback. We've had a great trio this year with Magic Circle, the Star and Fox Theater, so it's nice to add one more to the fold. I can't remember the last movie I saw at this venue, but I remember riding my bike a bajillion times to see a movie on a Saturday afternoon when I was younger. On a grander scale, this means moviegoing in the area has increased. That is great news for local cinemas here and it is happening across the country, too. I wondered if us movie fans would lose the cinematic experience with theaters struggling and streaming a popular option. But a move like this pumps the brakes on that discussion.
Opt-out out, opt-in in Another important decision was made Tuesday. The Montrose County School District board voted 6-1 to adopt a requirement that parents opt-in their children into health construction. The current policy allows parents to sign an opt-out form. Now, students can't participate in health class without a parent-signed form. Staff writer Anna Lynn Winfrey had the details. There is concern regarding the public health implications stemming from the decision, though others argue parents should decide what their children learn while in class. What do you think? Vote in this poll on our website.
Before you go... Check out this photo from the Special Olympics meet that took place at Montrose High School today.
