Human toll is too high

Morrison Andre Mackneil Geraldine Talley These 10 people were going about their day at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday. Then, in a pattern that has become all too familiar, a man with a grievance and a gun walked through the door. All 10 of these people were shot to death and three more were hurt. Then, across the country, a gunman walked into the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods, California, and opened fire. There, one person (not yet identified) died and four more were critically hurt. Parishioners overpowered the suspect and "hogtied" him to restrain him for police. Both shootings, but particularly the one at the Tops market in Buffalo, are tragic reminders of Colorado's own mass murder at a Boulder King Soopers in 2021. Everyone has their thoughts as to why aggrieved people decide to take out their anger on innocent people — and what can be done about it. I cannot even begin to offer a solution to the violence. But I can — we all can — pause to remember the 11 victims from this weekend, who by all rights should have been able to shop and worship in peace and safety. May they rest in peace and may the rest of us find justice for them. Katharhynn from the newsroom, wishing (and not for the first time) that she had better news.
