Good evening and hello! This past Sunday, I went kayaking at Ridgway State Park! The experience was a new one for me and I had a blast. Guiding myself on top of the water was a challenge at times (and a good workout). I had to stop a few times for a rest but to also take a gaze at my surroundings — a view of the San Juans, hills and the blue sky, all on a sunny day. Here's a picture of me below on an "island" where I skipped rocks and had some snacks: I mention all this because I want to shout out Montrose Surf and Cycle, which helped make the trip possible with their kayak rentals. They made the process simple and easy by walking me through how to inflate the kayak and offered tips on how to navigate it. If you're looking to get outdoors and get out on the water, Montrose Surf and Cycle's shop is located at 245 W. Main St. Please let me know of any other spots in the region that breed fun adventures! Airport hotel project grounded The company, SunCore Hospitality Montrose Airport LLC, was supposed to start construction on the hotel in December. That never happened, of course, with the land undeveloped — nowadays it is usually filled with parked cars. Staff Writer Anna Lynn Winfrey is currently searching for answers as to why SunCore has not started construction. The company hasn't responded to multiple requests for comment. Though the two are not directly related, projects at Colorado Outdoors have been moving along swiftly to this point. Also, the terminal expansion project at the airport should have its first phase completed by December. My point is the situation is a reminder of how fickle project development can be. It takes time, money and commitment to bring a project to life, which adds volumes to the vision of the Colorado Outdoors campus. That isn't to say an airport hotel won't happen. The county could potentially revisit it, though such a decision also takes time and resources.
Members of first MHS girls lacrosse nucleus set to graduate I usually take some time to highlight one sport program here, but with the regular season for most teams coming to a close, I want to highlight more than a few today.
You might have seen me write about Bailey in some articles already, but I do in-depth here on her training and how it has led to her growth at the position.
This season, she has a save percentage of .598. For those unfamiliar with lacrosse, that number is really good. Like top 10 in the state good and top five in 4A good. • MHS girls golf placed second at the Tiger Invitational in Grand Junction on Monday. It was the second time the girls finished second at a tournament and they won three tournaments in a row earlier this season. Typically, it has been Grace DeJulio leading the pack for the girls in terms of scoring with others usually several spots behind. But on Monday, the scores were different. Siera Mihavetz led the team with a 91 and Kendyll Bernatis matched her. "We showed the depth of our team today," said Montrose coach Dan Herod. Giada Amundson shot a 97 and DeJulio rounded out the scoring with a 98. The girls have two more tournaments this season, and by the sounds of it, could start a new trend.
