Hi and hello!

It's Cassie here with your newsletter. We had a lot of high-energy celebrations over the weekend, kicking off July 4 with the annual Independence Day parade. The heat was something else, but I loved seeing all the smiling faces and excited kids lining Main Street!

City of Montrose staff have their eye on FCI Constructors for the renovation of City Hall at 400 E. Main St., formerly the home of a Wells Fargo Bank Building.

Staff during a city council work session on Tuesday introduced a potential contract of $1.5 million for FCI Constructors for renovations. FCI Constructors is based in Grand Junction. Stryker and Company, located in Montrose, was the only other contractor to submit a proposal.

The $1.5 million comes from estimated costs for the contractor's scope of work and owner provided items, which includes asbestos abatement, lower roof replacement, furniture, IT equipment, the design team and more.

Officials associated with the U.S. 50 Little Blue Creek Canyon project, which is located between mile markers 123 and 127, provided updates during a stakeholder meeting on Wednesday.

Joe Callaway, who is from the Federal Highway Administration - Central Lands Division and serving as project engineer, said blasting operations for the project are nearly complete.

Around 75 percent of the bridge cut, which is located at milepost 25, is down, Callaway added. Another blast on Wednesday brought it to around 90 percent. The blasting will widen the road so tractors, trailers and trucks can navigate the road and curves more efficiently.

There is an extension of the truck lane facing west and a new truck lane from the horseshoe facing east.
