Hi and hello!

It's Cassie here with your Thursday newsletter.

It's been a wet week, both in the news and the weather. I realize that sounds odd, but Montrose is moving full steam ahead with our water progression.

Yesterday I stopped by Project 7's open house, where they explained their upcoming (and second) water treatment plant.

What's Project 7? This is actually a very common question! Not many, even in the local water orgs, know that Project 7 is our local drinking water supplier. As the regional water authority, they connect drinking water to The City of Montrose, The City of Delta, The Town of Olathe, The Tri-County Water Conservancy District, The Chipeta Water District and The Menoken Water District.

So...what's the project and why do we need it?: Great question! Right now (according to Montrose Mayor Dave Frank and P7 spokesperson Miles Graham), our water has a complicated trade system between the participating entities. As you probably already know, our national water supply situation isn't improving. Montrose is in a unique situation where our water capacity is nearly double the current demand, but as Dave put it, "We're not taking it for granted."

So hence, a second water treatment plant (and possibly another water storage tank) to "strengthen and secure" our water capacity long-term. The project hopes to increase water supply by 40% by the time it's running in 2026. It would also ensure that each participant, who already owns water rights to the drinking water, receives more of its own water in the future.

Keep an eye out for my full story, but in the meantime, you can read more about the project here!

Have a great rest of your Thursday, Montrose - remember to stay dry and stay hydrated! I'm off to Ridgway for the town's final free concert tonight!
