Hi and hello! It's Cassie here with your newsletter. I hope you're ready to nerd out with me today! You may have already heard, but there's supernova-level news in the science world! This week NASA unveiled the deepest photos of the universe ever taken, including a planetary nebula, all with the help of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
The $10B telescope, launched in December, has successfully captured images that progress our understanding of how the universe evolved as early as 13 billion years ago!
The initial photo (seen above), released Monday, shows a massive galaxy cluster emitting enough light to showcase even more distant galaxies. As large an area as this covers, it's still comparable to a "grain of sand held at arm's length by someone on the ground," NASA explained.
"This landscape of "mountains" and "valleys" speckled with glittering stars is actually the edge of a nearby, young, star-forming region called NGC 3324 in the Carina Nebula. Captured in infrared light by NASA's new James Webb Space Telescope, this image reveals for the first time previously invisible areas of star birth." City street construction lights up Montrose If you were to look at a map of street construction through Montrose (and actually you can right here), it would be fairly lit up right now. I sat down with City Engineer and Project Manager Ryan Cushenan earlier this week to discuss a more comprehensive update on our city's street work. Waterline work resumed Monday on Hill and Congress Streets following a delay caused by pipe deliveries, Cushenan explained. Contractors working on the project were also previously contractually obligated to begin work at the airport's terminal extension project, adding to the delay.
Townsend construction is moving along on schedule. Cushenan asks that drivers remain diligent and mindful of workers while driving along Townsend and avoiding parking along the street when possible.
Woodgate realignment project: the project team anticipates wrapping up concrete work by the end of next week, which will allow repaving during the final week of July. Cushenan hopes to reopen the realignment by the end of the month!
Keep an eye out for these updates as I send them out this week!
