Good evening and hello! I moved to Montrose when I was 8 years old, graduated from Montrose High School at 18 and nabbed my first professional job out of college at 23.
That first job was as a staff writer for the Montrose Daily Press. After two and a half years covering the community I grew up in, I'm saying "au revoir" Montrose.
This is my last newsletter and Monday, July 11 is my last day at the Daily Press. I want to thank my colleagues for their hard work and support over the past two years.
I want to thank everyone in the community who took time to speak with me for a story or walk me through complex topics. To the MHS and OHS coaches and student-athletes, thank you for sharing your stories and experiences.
I also want to thank the readers. I hope I gave you something interesting or fun to read about, whether it was in regard to business, sports or any other subject. I had a blast sharing all of it and letting you know what is going on in your community.
Montrose is growing both commercially and domestically. There is no doubt about that. I look forward to seeing how it expands from afar.
Thanks again, everyone.
- Josue Perez, Daily Press staff writer
More info on the bitcoin operation Late last month, Aspen Creek Digital Corporation formally announced the 6 megawatt high performance computing center, or HPCC, co-located behind-the-meter with a 10 megawatt solar farm, had begun operations. It is located between Olathe and Delta off U.S. 50. I followed up to find out more about the once-secretive operation. Here are a few notes: • ACDC's solar development partner recommended Olathe and called it a "good location for solar." ACDC began development of the area in 2021, but we already knew that — the rows of panels were hard to miss. • ACDC has several renewable power development partners on the project, including Aspen Creek Power. ACP is the solar developer for the project. • Due to the data center's interconnection to the DMEA grid, it will also serve as a flexible load resource for the region. It will continue to operate as a bitcoin mining center. There may be more announcements or developments about this project so stay tuned.
New staff writer, new Miss Rodeo Colorado I want to let you know about Frank M. Witowski Jr. He is a new staff writer who will be covering the North Fork community, education in Montrose County and Delta County commissioners. You can expect to see his byline in the Daily Press and Delta County Independent. You can read his latest here — a feature on the new Miss Rodeo Colorado, Randilyn Madison. She is a 2015 graduate of MHS and was named Montrose County Fair and Rodeo Queen in 2017.
Madison said her role as Miss Rodeo Colorado includes "being a role model for young girls and giving back to the communities who have got me here and made this possible." "This is a once in a lifetime experience and it's crazy I'm number 67 in Colorado to hold this title," she said. You can pick up a print copy of the MDP tomorrow and find the feature on Randilyn.
