Delta Pride?

Delta County has been a hotbed for the PRIDE movement. Spearheaded by The Learning Council based in Paonia.
From claims of harassment of LBGTQ+ students that were presented at the June 22 Delta County School Board meeting to a PRIDE celebration event and parade recently. This isn't my dad's Delta anymore.
In this week's Delta County Independent our reporter Lucas Vader has published a story regarding the controversy between Fort Uncompahgre Executive Director Chris Miller and the Western Colorado Migrant and Rural Coalition.
It seems Miller contracted out the Mexican Heritage Celebration to the Coalition. At the 2021 celebration the Learning Council had a booth at which they flew the pride flag. In 2022 Miller cancelled the event but not until June after the Coalition had put a lot work into the event. Her official reason was that the no entertainment was booked. But at subsequent City of Delta work sessions Miller let it be known that it was due in large part because she wasn't comfortable with them flying "that" flag. It's the fort's position to remain apolitical in any event they sponsor.
Delta City Council could vote tonight to terminate the lease with Miller's group. I'm told there is only one year left on the lease.
Here's the DCI story with city council member's takes. We'll have more before next week's DCI publication.Image
