I have found my people I was taking care of some business late last week, when I came across the perfect encapsulation of Halloween and winter weather — this snowcat, spotted in a Montrose neighborhood.
Cats and Halloween go together — and who doesn't like building snow creatures? "I must have a photo of this," I told myself, and pulled over, parking in front of a house across the intersection. That house's lawn ornaments caught my eye: little black cats, in various poses. Then, when I turned my head, I spotted a wooden Sylvester and Tweety hanging out on a porch railing. If you know me, you know my license plate is cat-centric. And this is why I started to laugh in the middle of an innocent neighborhood — the sheer randomness of so many cat-goods, concentrated in one area. I have found my people. And, if you're a parent and went downtown today, you probably found several of yours. Downtown merchants again brought the fun to Main Street, handing out sweet treats to youngsters who were all ready for Halloween. Here is one of my favorite shots, courtesy Justin Tubbs. You can see many more photos here. (Kimberly McGeehee, owner of SheShe Boutique, dressed as a child of the '70s, hands candy to Myah Sandoval, 2. Children made their way all up and down Main Street Monday, as businesses opened their doors to trick-or-treaters.) Do you have favorite photos of Halloween decorations, costumes, or events? We'd love to see 'em. Send to editor@montrosepress.com
Final note: If you've had your fill of Halloween and want to learn more about other cultural celebrations, head down to MADA, 17 N. 6th St., from 3:30 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
The community is invited to Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead), which is traditionally celebrated in South America at about the same time as Halloween — but please, do not mistake it for "Mexican Halloween." — Katharhynn from the newsroom
