We're getting closer to election day, which means coverage is amping up even more. It can be a stressful season for everyone, so remember to take some breaks and breathers from the news when you can. For those who are following election news, Adam Frisch will be debating Lauren Boebert tonight in a virtual forum from 6-7 p.m. You can join via Zoom here or check out the League of Women's Voters Facebook page.
In school news, there's a lot happening! The school district just received 24 doses of Narcan in case of an opioid overdose. While Montrose and Olathe schools haven't yet experienced overdose cases, the school district is looking to get ahead of the crisis with the overdose reversal treatment. Around 260 high schoolers were able to witness the Colorado Court of Appeals hear two very real cases yesterday in the Montrose Pavilion auditorium as part of the judicial department's "Courts in the Community" program.
It was pretty darn cool! Students asked several insightful questions that impressed both the attorneys on each case as well as the three visiting judges. You may have already seen MCSD Superintendent Carrie Stephenson's oped in the paper last weekend. Dr. Stephenson addressed some controversial opinions floating around education today. The editorial released ahead of an independent film showing last night organized by a small group within Montrose. The film goes into critical language swirling around educators today: Critical Race Theory, BLM, sex and health education and parents losing power. Stephenson denounces this as "nothing more than sensationalism and frankly ridiculous." From Stephenson's oped: In our schools, we try to teach our students how to evaluate resources, learn about information literacy, and how to think critically. It is time for all of us to practice these skills and embrace our small town values that have always made Montrose County special. Misinformation can lead us all down a politically toxic path. Until tomorrow, Montrose! ~ Cassie QUICK LINKS |
