The mascot news continues...

Happy Thursday, Montrose! In case you missed it, Johnson Elementary School has chosen its new mascot: they'll now be represented by the Timberwolves. The Thunderbird was retired back in May, which kept the district in compliance with the Colorado Department of Education and the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs. This makes it the third Montrose school to undergo a mascot swap following Gov. Jared Polis' bill banning all Native American mascots in schools state-wide.

In other news, I'm about to head over to the city's West Main Revitalization Project open house at the MADA building (6:30-8 p.m.) where they'll gather public input on the upcoming project. For some quick background, CDOT awarded the city $2 million last year to improve a number of areas. This includes improving pedestrian safety, replacing aging water infrastructure and beautifying the area.

The project area encompasses West Main Street from Selig Avenue to the West Main Trailhead at the Uncompahgre River, which is officially designated as State Highway 90 and is under CDOT's jurisdiction.

You can read more about the project here.

See you next week!
