Thankful

Hello, Montrose! If your Monday is feeling extra tough, I hope it is only because your Thanksgiving holiday was so wonderful that anything else this past week pales in comparison.

I'll let you in on an not-very shattering secret: I love the annual community dinner, and I especially love living in a community that is willing to step up, plan, coordinate, raise funds, and volunteer to have one.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring Montrose Community Dinners' annual feast back to an in-person setting last Thursday! Apparently, it was one for the record books, with almost 2,500 people being served, including delivery, pick-up and dine-in. It was good to be back!

I am also thankful for the different folks who invited me to their private Thanksgiving dinners! That's another good thing about Montrose.

What's more? There are plenty of ways to help others for the upcoming Christmas season.

Haven House is seeking items for its Shepherd's Shopping Spree.

Angels for the Needy is looking for more help filling the stockings of teens, and also more sponsors for gifts.

All around town, donation boxes and angel trees are popping up, asking for help in delivering others some Christmas joy.

This is just a short list of many worthy causes this season. Have a look around and see what you can do — and if you know of a similar event or gift drive, drop us a line at editor@montrosepress.

— Merry pre-Christmas to all, from Katharhynn and the newsroom.

More gratitude

Amid the horror of the Club Q mass murder a few weeks ago, heroes stood forth.

By now, I hope you have been able to read at least one story about Richard Fierro and/or Thomas James. Both are veterans. Both took on the shooter, tackling him, hitting him between gaps in his body armor, and doubtless saving countless lives.

Thank you to everyone who had any role in stopping the carnage, from bystanders to first responders. In a perfect world, this sort of tragedy would not happen at all.
