I don't drink much

But it seems like I've written a disproportionate number of newsletters about alcohol. Usually it's something exciting, like a great experience at a local winery, or a preview of events like Oktoberfest and San Juan Fresh Fest.

This time, I wanted to expand a little on our coverage of a controversial liquor license that, if approved would allow City Market's southern locationn to sell spirits in addition to beer and wine.

At a meeting last week, the city heard 'aplication, accompanied by lots of local opposition, and ultimately tabled the issue for 30 days.

The story is quickly developing, and we've heard (though we're not certain) the city could issue a decision as early as next week. With that in mind, I've spent the last few days speaking with local liquor store owners, liquor producers and advocates to get a clearer picture of how this will- and already has- impacted them.

Howeever, since we must run this article by Saturday before a possible decision, I certainly haven't had the chance to speak with everyone I'd like to. If you own a liquor store, brewery, distillery, etc, and didn't get a call, please feel free to reach out. We will continue covering this topic, and want to do so with as much community input as possible.

Cheers,
Kylea from the newsroom

Movement on the morada: Advocate shares history as city poised to buy easements for historic site

Places like the Montrose morada — a prayer house of the Penitente Brotherhood — where his father's wake was held, and which was for more than 30 years a touchstone of the northern Montrose neighborhood whose residents call it Tortilla Flats.
