MCSD denies MCA charter ... For about a year, the team behind the Montrose Classical Academy has worked to establish a charter school. On Tuesday night, that effort was ended — at least for now — with the Montrose County School District Board of Education's denial of MCA's application. School board President Sarah Fishering described being "very conflicted" about her decision regarding MCA, while Vice President Stephen Bush said he's struggled with the issue for months: "I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it." Ultimately, the school board voted 4-3 to reject the charter's application, with Fishering telling MCA's proponents they can always try again after addressing the board's list of concerns about the charter. That may be exactly what the charter intends to do, with MCA board President Kay Alexander saying after the district's decision that the charter team planned to move forward: "we aren't going away."
