The Red-tailed Hawk and Stewardship

Undulating mesas roll down from the Gunnison Uplift's northern side toward Hotchkiss. Fields stretch out for miles across Scenic and Fruitland Mesas.  Grand Mesa and the West Elk Mountains are stepped back to the north and east.  The sky seems bigger here.  Farmers and ranchers work the fields when spring comes; their homes, barns, and outbuildings dot the prairie-like scene.
