QUOTE OF THE DAY: "If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate." — Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl

REMEMBERING 9/11:
Today, as a way of honoring those victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and first responders who have died since of medical complications related their work on 9/11, Montrose leaders from several professions share their thoughts on the tragedy that was both national and international in scope.
We asked our subscribers to share their memories of the events on Sept. 11, 2001, and Caitlin Switzer of Montrose had this to say:
"On Sept. 11, 2001, I was standing in the news room at the old Montrose Daily Press building, early in the morning, when my editor Greg Johnson called us all to the television to watch the attacks. He quickly assigned us all new stories to work on—I was sent to the airport to speak to travelers (including our Publisher Steve Woody who was there waiting for a plane) and to cover a trial for another reporter who was away. Staff writers Elaine Hale Jones and Mary Ann Lopez were there as well. We put out an extra edition that day. Despite all of the heartbreak and tragedy of the events that took place, I feel that my editor embodied the words that later became part of the 911 legend—the words of Coloradoan Todd Beamer, as he and other passengers successfully took down a terrorist only to lose their own lives.
I was so proud to live in the United States and to work for the best editor in the business, and I still am. Let's roll."
