Hi and hello! Cassie here with your daily newsletter. Can you believe we're wrapping up the last day of November? This month flew right by us!
Well by now, you know me well enough to know how much I love my facts and history, so here's one as we say farewell to the last month of fall:
Did you know that in the original Roman calendar, November was actually the ninth month of the year? The name stems from the Latin root "novem," which means "nine." It was pushed to the current 11th slot, however, when the Romans added January and February to the calendar.
While we now anticipate November as a month dedicated to homey foods, hot beverages, pumpkins and spice, it used to be considered a rather sobering month for people since it crossed the threshold into winter.
People would spend November storing up their harvest and preparing food and households for winter survival. We've come such a long way!

Have you been to The Flower Shoppe? Hannah Browning is pretty impressive. At just 20 years young, she has opened up her own flower shop right on Main St.
You can stop by the adorable yellow house tucked in on Main for flowers of any occasion. Foster families receive a free bouquet every Tuesday, so spread the word to your amazing friends and loved ones!
Hannah also sells locally-sourced gift items in the front of her shop and teaches workshops. Her upcoming December workshops (Dec. 3 and 9) will be dedicated to learning how to arrange a Christmas wreath. You can sign up here.
DMEA expects to soon update customers on the network situation: My colleague, Katharyhnn, has been following the "attempt" on the cooperative's network this month. DMEA expects to provide a more extensive update to customers tomorrow. The CEO confirmed today in a public board of directors meeting that they were the victim of a "malicious" and "sophisticated cybersecurity attack."

Montrose School District's former IT director was sentenced to probation: Robert "Steve" McEwin was sentenced yesterday to a plea deal that he'd already agreed to. The deal will sentence him to 60 days jail time and four years of supervised probation for embezzling several thousand dollars from the school district for his personal use.
While McEwin apologized for letting down his colleagues, District Judge Keri Yoder said his conduct was purposeful and done over a period of years.

She added that a felony 4 theft of between $20,000 and $100,000 usually merits prison.
