Good afternoon, Montrose! Today has felt like a combination between an actual Friday and a Monday, but at least the real weekend starts tomorrow.

I'm thankful that I could celebrate and have the day off yesterday to cook and relax with my family, but I'm also grateful to everyone who worked yesterday to keep the world moving.

My favorite Thanksgiving dish was probably the stuffing I made with bread cubes I've been accumulating for the past few months. I bake my own bread, but I usually can't finish an entire loaf by myself before the bread gets too hard. I love to cut the bread up into cubes and throw it in a bag in the freezer, which I take out whenever I want fresh croutons for salads or soups. I brought an entire bag with me home for Thanksgiving, which made the perfect base for a delectable stuffing.

I hope everybody else had a great Thanksgiving — there's some ideas for what to do with leftovers at the bottom of this newsletter!

Bolstered graduation requirements: The class of 2022 and all following cohorts will need to fulfill a new requirement to graduate. The easiest way for students to do this is a minimum score on the math and English SAT sections, but just over half of MCSD students did not meet the state-set expectation.

Luckily, students can pick from a menu of nine other ways to make sure they graduate on time, from taking a college course to designing a portfolio. I spoke with district staff, counselors and high school seniors around the area to hear their thoughts on the program.

Small business Saturday is tomorrow: Maybe you've been scouring the internet for the best Black Friday deals for the past few days, but don't forget about shopping locally.

More than 80 small businesses are participating in the Montrose Bucks program this year, up from 16 last year. You can purchase Montrose Bucks gift cards, while supplies last, at the Montrose Visitor Center. For every $50 in gift cards you buy, you'll get $60 to spend.

Check out this story from staff writer Josue Perez and read more about the program on the city's website.

What to do with Thanksgiving leftovers: Do you have a bunch of leftovers that you don't know what to do with? From a Thanksgiving-themed Crunchwrap to mashed potato waffles, here's a collection of creative recipes to make sure nothing goes to waste.
