| | The joy of music ... Recently, I attended my daughter's winter band concert. She's learning to play the clarinet in the Centennial Middle School band. The concert featured students of varying skill levels, from the advanced players in the jazz band to the beginners in the beginning band. At one point during the concert, director Cameron Beauchamp spoke a bit about how fun it was to teach beginning students, watching them excitedly grow into the experience. I thought it'd be fun to explore this thread further, maybe bring John White, the band director over at Columbine Middle School, into the conversation. "It's really fun. To work with the kids and to be there for those first sounds," Beauchamp explained. "It's really fun to see them come along on this journey where they start making music. And you get to see their face when they play the first song and they're like, 'oh, wait, this isn't just sounds anymore, I'm actually learning how to do this, I'm actually making music.'"
